Uncover Branding Intelligence With KnowEm

Here is a quick tip for individuals responsible for protecting their organization’s brand and online reputation via social media.

KnowEm is a platform that provides users the ability to discover “where their names, brands, or trademarked terms are available (or stolen) on social media networks“.  The different 500 social media networks fall into the following categories:

  • Blogs
  • Bookmarking sites
  • Business platforms (i.e., LinkedIn, Slideshare, Spoke)
  • Community (i.e., Facebook)
  • Design
  • Entertainment
  • Health
  • Information
  • Microblogging
  • Music
  • News
  • Photos

To test KnowEm, let us perform queries for business platforms, information and microblogging applications with the Deloitte brand for the consulting firm.  For query, the search tool gives users which platforms are taken with the exact brand name.  Figure 1 informs us that only 6 accounts  amongst the 24 business platforms are not available specifically:

  • edocr
  • The Motley Fool
  • .docstoc
  • Uservoice
  • Satisfaction
  • Zillow
  • LinkedIn

Furthermore, the identical query uncovers that the “Deloitte” brand is attached to 8 information based social media platforms as seen in Figure 2.

From a microblogging point of view, KnowEm provides details that 8 accounts associated with the Deloitte name.  The results for the query regarding the microblogging platforms are provided in Figure 3.

Although KnowEm furnishes a greater number of social media sites that may not be that popular to the masses, it is important to where your brand name  or trademark appears on the social web.  With the different functions that may come with the hundreds of social media  applications, it is very simple for an individual to take  a brand name and attach it to a platform that  may effect a corporate entity’s online reputation in the short and long term.
